Everything you want to know about your roof replacement — before, during, and after installation.
Section 1 / 2
Before Installation
What to expect leading up to and during installation day.
How long will my roof installation take?
Most residential roofs are completed in one to two days depending on the size, pitch, and weather.
What time will the crew arrive?
Our crew typically arrives between 6:45 AM and 7:30 AM to begin setup and protect your property before tear-off.
Will it be noisy during installation?
Yes — roofing work can be loud inside your home, especially during tear-off and nailing. It typically lasts only during daylight hours.
Should I move my vehicles?
Yes. Please park on the street or away from the driveway before work begins so the crew has clear access and your vehicles are out of the debris fall zone.
How will my property be protected?
We take great care to protect landscaping, driveways, and patios with tarps, plywood, and magnetic nail sweeps. Sensitive plants can be covered on request.
Do I need to be home during installation?
No. You're welcome to be home, but it's not required. We coordinate access and provide status updates throughout the day.
What happens if it rains during my project?
If rain is forecasted, we'll cover any exposed areas with heavy-duty tarps and schedule work to resume as soon as weather permits.
What if damaged decking or hidden issues are found?
If we discover rotted or damaged decking, we'll document it with photos and notify you immediately before any additional work is done.
What materials will be used?
We install GAF Certified Roofing Systems, meaning your roof includes all matching GAF components. Owens Corning systems are also available depending on your preference.
What warranties are included?
All installations come with the GAF Lifetime Limited Warranty (on qualifying systems) plus GK Homes and Roofing's 10-year workmanship warranty. Owens Corning warranties are available when their system is installed.
How do you handle cleanup and nails?
Cleanup is a priority. We perform a full magnetic sweep of your yard, driveway, and flower beds — then walk the property perimeter to collect any remaining debris.
When is final payment due?
Final payment is due upon completion and your satisfaction — once we've inspected the work and you've approved the finished result.
Can I refer friends or neighbors?
Absolutely — we appreciate referrals. When your referral leads to a completed roof replacement, you receive a $500 referral reward.
Who should I contact if I have questions during the process?
You'll have a direct line to Garett Kates throughout your project. No call centers or voicemail trees — questions go straight to the owner.
Section 2 / 2
After Installation
What to expect in the days and weeks after your new roof is complete.
What happens now that my roof is installed?
Once installation is complete, we perform a final inspection to ensure all components meet GAF specifications and GK workmanship standards before closing out the project.
My yard has some leftover materials or nails — is that normal?
A small amount of residual debris can happen, especially after rain or wind. Let us know and we'll return to do another magnetic sweep at no cost.
Will I notice any odors or granules in my gutters?
Yes — this is completely normal. New shingles release protective granules for the first few weeks as they settle.
My roof looks a little uneven in spots — should I be concerned?
Not at all. New shingles can appear slightly uneven until they settle and seal under heat and sun exposure over the first few days.
Do I need to register my warranty?
If your roof is part of the GAF Lifetime Roofing System, we'll handle registration for you and send confirmation. You don't need to do anything.
Should I check the attic or ceiling after installation?
Yes — after the first good rain, it's wise to look in your attic or ceiling areas for any moisture. Report anything unusual immediately.
Is there anything I shouldn't do right away?
Avoid walking on the roof for at least two weeks, as shingles need time to seal fully.
How long before the shingles fully seal?
Typically 48–72 hours of warm, sunny weather allows the adhesive to bond completely.
What should I do if it rains soon after installation?
Don't worry — your roof is watertight immediately upon completion. Installation is not finished until the roof is fully waterproofed.
How can I maintain my new roof?
Keep gutters clear, trim overhanging branches, schedule annual inspections, and avoid pressure washing the shingles.
Will my property be inspected again?
Yes. GK Homes and Roofing performs a post-installation quality check to confirm the roof meets our standards.
What if I notice an issue or leak?
Contact Garett Kates directly. Every roof includes a workmanship warranty, and any concern will be handled promptly and professionally.
Can I leave a review or referral?
Absolutely — reviews mean a lot to us. Most of our work comes from referrals, and every referral that leads to a completed replacement earns you a $500 reward.
